Clam or Halibut Chowder

4 potatoes, cubed
½ lb bacon
½ chopped onion
½ cup diced celery
1 can evaporated milk (or 12 oz heavy whipping cream)
2 cups diced claims in juice or 2 cups raw halibut
Seasoning salt
Garlic powder to taste
½ tsp thyme
¼ to ½ cup instant mashed potatoes


Fry bacon with onion until well done. Cover potatoes with enough water just to cover. Add clams, celery and seasonings, cook until potatoes are tended. If you are making halibut chowder, the halibut when water begins to boil. Cook till potatoes are tender and halibut is cooked. Add bacon and milk/or cream and heat through. Add mashed potatoes flakes to get desired consistency.
